How Madison Avenue Is Wasting Millions on a Deserted Second Life [Wired]
I don't know if "wasting millions" is how I'd describe corporate investments/entry into Second Life. I mean, hell, they "waste" millions on advertising too..

The Headlines Get Gnarlier
The past couple of weeks have been marked by a gaping lack of "real news" (not that I'm complaining). Shapeshifter got married, Bush is still an idiot asshole 'leader' of epic proportions, superficiality can be rewarding, and the odd, gross headline have come across my monitor lately.
In continuation of the slow, lame news stretch, here's more gross and pretty useless information.

Larvae Take Up Residence on Man's Head
Jul 17, 11:35 PM (ET)CARBONDALE, Colo. (AP) - Doctors thought the strange, bleeding bumps on Aaron Dallas' head might be from gnat bites or shingles. Then the bumps started moving.
A doctor found five active bot fly larvae living beneath the skin atop Dallas' head.
"I'd put my hand back there and feel them moving. I thought it was blood coursing through my head," Dallas told the (Glenwood Springs) Post Independent.
"I could hear them. I actually thought I was going crazy."

Seriously, this news, and the ensuing commentaries (here or here or here) have brought me a sort of joy that I didn't know I was capable of feeling.
*Before anyone gets up in my grill for being..'evil' - I merely aim to illuminate the moral of the story: Be an unintelligent, hateful gasbag who amasses a fortune from hateful misguided pseudo-religious dabblings in politics, and people will dance on your grave when you die.

Lesbian Couple in Wyo. Denied Communion [MyWay News]
My favorite part of the article:
Huskinson questioned why Catholics having premarital sex and using birth control are not barred from receiving Communion, too. But the parish priest said the difference is this: The other Catholics are "not going around broadcasting, 'Hey I'm having sex outside of marriage' or 'I'm using birth control.'"There you have it folks. In the Christian metaphysic you just need to hide your sins and have a happy Easter.

Christ Getting In Shape For Second Coming
"If every eye is going to see Me, and all the tribes of earth are going to wail on account of Me, I think I owe it to them and to Myself to be in the best shape of My life," Christ said. "Right now I'm up to 35 minutes at seven [miles per hour] on the treadmill and benching about 165 [pounds]."

YouTube Awards
This is interesting. So YouTube had it's first 'official' awards and hahahahaha the New York Times tries to wrap it's head around it. The article's tone reads like someone poking at a pile of stinking, dirty laundry with a stick. Whatever. There are some sweet mentions and links in there. ('My Hands Are Bananas' and 'Ask a Ninja' are good.) And it's odd to see the YouTube community has morphed into a MySpace clone. Everyone is finally their own channel it seems.

Catholic Politicians Can't Back Gay Marriage: Pope
Tue Mar 13, 7:44 AM ETVATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Church's opposition to gay marriage is "non-negotiable" and Catholic politicians have a moral duty to oppose it, as well as laws on abortion and euthanasia,
I am about as interested in hearing what this narrow-minded freak thinks about politics as I am hearing what a robot thinks about sexual behavior.

I Believe the Children Are Our Future
I bet this little one is a riot.
Girl, 8, makes 100 prank 911 calls
Lt. Jim Risseeuw of the Sheboygan County, Wis., Sheriff's Department said the unidentified girl was traced with the help of AT&T and TracFone, which identified the phone's owner as the girl's mother, the Sheboygan Press reported Tuesday.
The woman had stopped using the phone but all cell phones can call 911 even if they don't have active service.
Risseeuw said the third-grader identified herself to dispatchers as "Matthew" when she made the calls, some of which contained profanities, the report said.
However, he said because of her age, she won't be charged.
"At this point, the matter was corrected," Risseeuw said. "We'll leave it for the parents to deal with."
Girl, 8, makes 100 prank 911 calls
SHEBOYGAN, Wis., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- No charges will be filed against an 8-year-old Wisconsin girl who made more than 100 prank calls to emergency operators last week.
Lt. Jim Risseeuw of the Sheboygan County, Wis., Sheriff's Department said the unidentified girl was traced with the help of AT&T and TracFone, which identified the phone's owner as the girl's mother, the Sheboygan Press reported Tuesday.

Ya Think?
This doesn't surprise me in the least.
On an unrelated note, I'm feeling pretty down lately (again). I am growing more and more weary of these cycles of excitement or optimism followed by days of pure boredom, directionlessness (that's a sad word), frustration & gnawing anxiety.
I'm leaving town (and country) on Friday for a big trip that's been in the works for months now.
I'm already not looking forward to the huge letdown/crash that will mark my return.
Upon my return from said trip, I will truly have nothing to use as an excuse for my lack of direction.
Don't cry for me.
